Henry Hudson
Hudson was English and sailed for England. The Hudson River, Bay, and Straight were all named for him. On his first two journeys, Hudson sailed to Canada and discovered the Hudson Bay and the Hudson Straight. On his second trip, Hudson and his crew sailed on the Half Moon, and discovered the Hudson River and some of the areas around the Northeast coast of America. He also sailed the Southeast coastline of Canada. He is also believed to have discovered New York City, although Verrazano sailed the same area nearly 80 years earlier. His last journey ended in a mutiny. Hudson died after his crew mutinied and left Hudson, his son, and seven crew members adrift in a small boat in the Hudson Bay.
